This piece called "Living Water" is a finalist in the 2016 NICHE Awards given by NICHE Magazine. It is one of only 5 finalists in the "Fashion Accessories" category. There were over 1600 total applicants in several categories. The piece was judged on technical excellence, market viability, and a distinct quality of unique, original and creative thought. I wove the piece after spending time in northern NY near Lake Ontario, which is one of the Great Lakes. I live in NM where great bodies of water are non-existent. This body of water was so alive, moving, rushing, full of life - I was overwhelmed with memories of my youth spent near that body of water. When I returned to the dessert of NM I wanted to capture the life of Lake Ontario and therefore I am honored that this piece is a finalist. "Living Water" has a spiritual meaning to me as well. I believe that the fine craft of weaving has been a gift from God given to me to refresh me and to give refreshment. I am thankful for this refreshment each and every time I sit at my loom (looms).
